Barb’s “Stories with at Twist” Student Workshops are 60-minutes full of fun, laughter, acting games, and storytelling. And students will actually learn something, too! The workshops can target specific grade levels or a particular group such as Gifted & Talented or Title 1 students. Barb will tailor the workshops for your students. Each workshop is intended for a group of up to 25 students.

What kind of workshops are available? Check out some examples!

1. Storytelling – students learn about the art of storytelling, then try out their own storytelling styles.
2.
Acting – students learn about stage directions, voice projection, body movements and basic presentation styles.
3. Public Speaking/Forensics – students learn some simple strategies about how to present a prepared reading or speech for a classroom assignment or judged event.
4. Writing – students will learn fun ways to create story ideas and how to get these ideas down on paper.
5. Sign-a-Story – students learn some basic signs from American Sign Language (ASL) then incorporate these signs into the telling of a traditional folk or fairy tale.

teacher

Barb’s Teacher Workshops have something for teachers of each grade level in elementary school, and the Specials teachers, too. Did you know that wild and wacky songs and stories could help improve literacy in your school? Barb’s interactive teacher workshops provide high-energy, fun, and educational storytelling activities for the elementary classroom. Teachers (and principals, too) will also learn new ways to involve students, fellow teachers, parents, and even the classroom pets in classroom and school-wide storytelling events. Find out how to connect storytelling with other curriculum areas and with the Virginia SOLs (and the happy, happy Common Core Standards). These workshops are great fun and cool handouts are provided, too! (Hey, it’s worth staying after school for this workshop!)
