Get Caught Reading Month
Have a “Get Caught Reading” event at your school. Take pictures of kids, teachers, parent volunteers and even classroom pets reading independently, in groups or to others, then display the photos on the school bulletin board or website. Give out random reward recognitions to those who are “caught” reading. There are images of celebrities who have been caught reading and you can download copies of the images or order free posters at: www.getcaughtreading.org |
May 1
Mother Goose Day
Children can make up some new 2007 Mother Goose Rhymes and share them with their classmates or other students and teachers in the school. How about “Little Bo-Mod has lost her iPod and doesn’t know where to find it…?” |

School Principals’ Day
Make a “Top Ten Reasons Our Principal is the Best” list or create a movie poster starring your wonderful school leader and display it in the school office. Create a special award for your principal or find out some silly information about him from his family and friends, then read “Fun and Funny Little Known Facts about Mr. ___” during the morning announcements. |

Do-Dah-Day
Ask your children to create some fun, new activities to celebrate Do-Dah Day! What games can be played, what songs can be sung, what wonderful stories can be created to explain this crazy day? |
May 7-13
Teacher Appreciation Week
Help your students appreciate you by planning special activities to celebrate what you do as a teacher everyday. Have classrooms send special messages of thanks to all the other teachers in your school. Children can present stories, poems and/or songs to all your school educators. |
