February Fun! Library Lovers' Month Give your Librarian a big hug! Children can make a special book just for her. And how about the students reading a story to her for once? February 2 Groundhog Day Write a Groundhog song or story from the groundhog’s point of view. What’s it been like waiting in a hole all winter? How does the groundhog feel about being the center of all this worldwide attention? And how about singing a Shadow Song? Don’t know one? Then compose it! February 4-10 Children's Authors and Illustrators Week Make a graph of some favorite authors and illustrators. Make a graph showing how many books each author has written and/or each artist has illustrated. Ask children to do their own drawings for a popular story. February 14 Valentine’s Day Sing some love songs and act out your favorite Valentine stories. Children can make special Valentines for some other classes in your school or for children at another school. February 19 Presidents Day Write a play about George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. Have the class write a story about what might have happened if these two presidents had met each other. How are these men alike? How are they different? February 28 International Pancake Day “Cook up” a Pancake book! Children can write poems or draw pictures on paper pancakes, then “stack” them on a poster board. How tall is your pancake book? Make predictions then measure it!
